About the Author
John Moran is a consultant with Profitable Dairy Systems, located in Kyabram, Victoria. His specialist fields include dairy production, ruminant nutrition, calf and heifer rearing, forage conservation and whole farm business management. In 2013, he was appointed as the Coordinator of the Asia Dairy Network, an international agency position to facilitate communication and collaboration of dairy industries from 15 countries throughout South and East Asia. Since 1999, he has initiated and conducted training programs on small holder dairy production to farmers, advisers and policy makers in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and East Timor. His books include Tropical Dairy Farming, Calf Rearing, Heifer Rearing and Forage Conservation, and he has also published more than 200 research and extension articles and written several farmer manuals on cattle nutrition.

"Conversation Casanova" by Dave Perrotta is an incredibly informative and captivating read. When I originally downloaded this book, I only meant to skim through it real fast (to get a quick "sneak peek," if you will) with the intent to read it in its entirety later, but I was so captivated by the Introduction that I actually ended up reading the first 20 pages!

The author's conversational style (in a book about conversation!) really pulled me in and made for a great reading experience. In addition to being well-written, this book is also incredibly practical and useful to a wide range of men---regardless of your race, your income, or your level of physical attractiveness. In fact, my favorite quote from this book is the following:

"...You don't need to be rich, great looking, or have a great job to meet and attract women... But you DO need the right mindset... You can LEARN how to use conversation to get women irresistibly attracted to you and thinking about going home with you... minutes after first meeting you."

When it comes to dating advice, there's no one that explains it more directly and effectively than Dave Perrotta. I remember when I started reading his blog, I just graduated college and felt absolutely helpless with dating now that I was out in the "real world". However, Dave's content introduced me to a new way to look at life and attracting beautiful women.

As soon as I heard this book was released, I downloaded it immediately and dove right in.

Needless to say, I was not disappointed with the action-packed, realistic tips I could apply to my life right away. After reading this book, I feel more approachable and prepared whether I'm out at the bars, or walking around my neighborhood during the day. I feel more confident. And most importantly, I'm meeting and dating some incredible women in my life simply by starting authentic conversations with them.

I had doubts that I would be "flirting like a pro" after finishing this book... but boy was I surprised.

I've always been lost for words with women, so when I saw this book was specifically on how to structure conversations with women I was intrigued.

One of the main takeaways for me was how to effectively structure a story to make it more interesting. I knew that I had some interesting stories to tell but always struggled on how to explain them in a captivating way. The author gives you a solid structure for story telling and then demonstrates it in his own writing.

I'm already starting to feel more confident due to this new info. I have been telling the same stories that used to bore and now I'm getting some good reactions from women!

If you are looking to improve your conversational skills this is definitely a MUST READ!

A.P.R. Howatt has retired as Senior Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, of which he is a graduate. Professor Henry Widdowson is an internationally acclaimed authority in applied linguistics and language teaching. His many books, articles, and lectures have been seminal in establishing both the field of applied linguistics and its mode of enquiry.

A grand sweep through English language teaching history

A History of English Language Teaching is a remarkable book that traces its subject all the way from the 14th century to the present day, offering a grand sweep through the major trends and events in English language description and teaching, as well as an impressive level of detail on some of the individuals that have shaped this history, and their methods and materials. While Howatt does a fine job of providing the social and political and social context for English teaching - such as the influx of French protestants into England in the 16th century, and the teaching of English in the British empire and in Europe - of greatest interest to teachers (if any get around to picking up this book, which seems doubtful) is the evolution of trends in language teaching from the 19th century on. The story of how the 19th century grammar-translation method eventually gave way to the direct method, is fascinating, and illustrates how much of 20th century English language teaching orthodoxy (such as the exile of the first language from the classroom) came about. Chapters focusing on the work of luminaries such as Harold Palmer and A.S. Hornby show how approaches emphasizing oral skills or structures have become folded (or not) into the repertoire of modern English language teachers. Happily, the tragi-comic story of Gouin's attempts to learn German are retained in this second edition.

The book belongs to the Oxford Applied Linguistics series, a series which was spearheaded for several years by Henry Widdowson. The work of the authors in this series, though covering a vast array of topics from language play to linguistic imperialism, English as a lingua franca, and translation in language teaching, nevertheless adds up to a cohesive 'world view' of language teaching and learning, undergirded in large part by Henry Widdowson himself. In the final chapter of A History of English Language Teaching, written for this second edition by Widdowson, he draws on much of the work of the authors of this series, such as Guy Cook, Barbara Seidlhofer, and Robert Phillipson, to present a (typically) modestly titled "Perspective on Recent Trends," which any English language professional would benefit from reading. It is an impressive 'state of the field' essay in which Widdowson ties together English for specific purposes, corpus linguistics, English as a lingua franca and as a global language, localization of decision-making, and various other topics into a unified 'world view.' Like all of Widdowson's writing, it is (if you are interested in these things) an engrossing read, and confirms - if any confirmation were needed - Henry Widdowson as the modern-day philosopher of our profession.

Though parts of A History of English Language Teaching require some sweat and toil (or perhaps some skimming), ultimately it's a satisfying book that can show how those of us in the profession today fit into the grand scheme of things, and gives some direction as to where the field is headed. Its main weakness is its anglocentrism (references to 'this country' and 'the government' need to be interpreted accordingly), and developments in the US, while covered, are not given as much attention as those arising in Britain. But this is a quibble; it is 'a' history, not 'the' history, and as such provides an effective and rewarding summation of a very human activity that has grown into a worldwide profession. The small number of us that read it will be enriched.

A variety of publications cover the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y 14.SM standard Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT). One problem faced by those who are responsible for inspection is the fact that most of these publications cover the subject of GDT only from the point of view of the draftsperson, designer, or manufacturing engineer. There are few sources of information for the people who have to inspect the end product with respect to these tolerances. Many who understand geometric tolerances and inspection methods have learned them the hard way—through mistakes and experience. The primary purpose of this book is to provide a source of learning for specific methods and techniques that can be used to ensure functional inspection of geometric tolerances. This book is designed specifically for operators, machinists, inspectors, quality technicians and engineers, and other people in manufacturing companies who have the need to know about inspection methods and techniques.

Some assumptions were made during the preparation of this book. One is that the reader already understands how to use and care for standard inspection equipment. A variety of inspection gages and measuring instruments (such as micrometers, indicators, surface plates, right-angle plates, and precision parallels) will be used in the examples, and it is assumed that the reader knows how to use this equipment. Many available textbooks cover the fundamentals of measuring and gaging equipment if the reader should need to study these topics.

Another assumption is that the reader works with GDT on engineering drawings per the ASME Y14.SM standard. The ASME symbols are interpreted in this book to the extent necessary to understand the inspection or gaging method discussed. An introduction to each symbol and some key facts about the symbol provide the reader with the interpretation necessary to perform the inspection and to better understand the symbol and its application. There are many different applications for GDT on a wide variety of products and functional requirements. It is not possible to cover all the different combinations and applications in one text. This book does, however, cover all the geometric tolerances in the standard, a representative sample of applications, and more than one method of inspection for each symbol.

Coverage of inspection methods for each symbol will begin with a sample drawing of a part, an explanation of the geometric requirement, a review of the GDT rules and tolerance zones that apply, and, finally, step-by-step instructions and photos for the inspection or gaging method. Readers should try to consider an application of their own as they are studying the various inspection and gaging methods covered in this book. For example, the methods illustrated might cover an example using a small part that are the same methods for larger parts using larger equipment. In every case, the rules and tolerance zones for each symbol are the same as the examples indicate, except that different amounts of tolerances are often applied.

It is important to understand that all the tolerance values used in this book are examples only and do not in any way constitute standard tolerance values. Tolerances for a given design depend solely on the design requirement. All inspection methods and techniques carry with them a certain amount of inherent error. The limitations of each method will also be covered so that appreciable measurement errors can be avoided.

Another assumption is that readers will use the knowledge obtained from each application covered to help them see how the inspection could be performed with other similar instruments, keeping in mind that a wide variety of measuring machines could be used for the inspection.

Most of the parts used in this book, except those with a specific credit line, have been machined specifically for use in the book and are the property of the author. All the measuring instruments used in this book are used instruments that have been donated by various companies, or the company has allowed the author access to its equipment. Although most of the instruments are second-hand, they provide good physical examples of each measurement method covered. This second edition offers the following changes and additions:

• Extensive revisions have been made to all text and graphics to update the book to the latest revision of the reference standard (American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.SM-1994)).
• Symmetry has been separated into a new Chapter 17.
• A new Chapter 18 has been added, entitled Introduction to Functional Gage Design.
• New photos of functional gages have been added in Chapter 18.
• New applications have been covered that are found only in the latest 1994 ASME standard.

Finally, this book has been limited by the type and amount of gages and products that have been donated for use in the examples. There are many different kinds of equipment on the market today that are more sophisticated than the equipment used in this book, but the principles of measuring geometric tolerances are well demonstrated by these traditional measuring tools and gages.

Best "Open Setup" GDT book on the market!

This is by far the best "open setup" textbook on GDT on the market. Gary has created two books (the other one called The Quality Technician Handbook) that are of high-quality and very useful to any machinist, engineer, technician,.... interested in quality control. They do require a minimum of understanding of the field of inspection so the novice needs to make sure that he/she gets help from a qualified co-worker or instructor when he/she has questions about the content.

This is not the tab book to get

While some of the songs are tabbed with a certain degree of accuracy (by that, I mean the positions on the fretboard that Yngwie plays them), the overwhelming majority of the songs will not be physically possible to replicate even at half speed if you go by the way the songs are transcribed in this book. Meaning no disrespect to the transcribers, they've tried to transcribe the solos using "the box method" as much as possible. Yngwie uses linear lines, going up and down the fretboard.
There are plenty of other books out there with much more accurate transcriptions than this. Search Amazon, ebay, craigslist, etc. But save yourself some money as this book simply is not a useful tool.

For a book with under 100 pages, I'm not sure where the fluff ends and content starts.

It's horrible and filled with unexplained terminology, examples written in Go, lengthy documentation from the author's own unmaintained library, bad links, and unrelated applications.

First, I consider it a grave mistake on the publisher to allow any author to publish the documentation for their own library or examples that use their library when the book isn't self-titled by that name. The author's library is github.com/llSourcell/kerala. In the book, it's cited improperly as llSourcell/go-kerala/kerala. This is confirmed in the online errata. The kerala library has 1 contributor (the author), 0 forks, and the last commit to it was over 15 months ago. The use of kerala is prime to the entire third chapter "Building Your First Dapp" which is central to the book. I don't care about the author's dead project. Aside from that, I think though I'm not certain, the author is simply hosting the index page using Go's web server. That's not exactly decentralized. It has a single point of failure. Yes, each tweet is immutable and stored on IPFS but the index page is the tricky part and he skirts the whole issue while wasting the chapter documenting his own library.

OpenBazaar and Lighthouse get their own chapters. But what is the chance that a user for these two projects will also be in the market for making their own Dapp using a library and a series of API's? This book muddles the distinction between user and developer. All that ties these subjects together is the hype of being "Dapp", a term the author seemingly fabricates "the best way to dive into why I've chosen the term Dapp [...]".

The hypothetical questions that guide the sections are laughably silly, "Any app can be open source, so why aren't they?" Why is there a section on open source at all? What does that have to do with distributed applications? Who is attracted to Decentralized Applications and needs space wasted to explain a high level overview of the pros of Open Source?

Many of these conceptual categories are arbitrary: I can't see the tie-in on page 13. It has a graphic of conceptual types of organizations that utilize internal and no-internal capital. Why are we mapping AI's and Robots in this book? The chart on page 24, "Political cryptocurrency beliefs" is just as random -- and what is "hyperbitcoinization"? Page 27 goes into another abstract category with "Zooko's triangle" which I believe is even factually incorrect as the author relates it to OpenID; I'm not sure what the author is exactly referring to when he calls OpenID "human meaningful."

The section on decentralized computing is a bump for Heroku which the author agrees has a central point of a failure and isn't a Dapp. Other notable non-candidates include primecoin and gridcoin which "aren't utilizable for computations that users decide; they're based on existing computations that the coins' creators need." Fascinating. And, from the computer science side of this how could you possible assess a cost to NP problems except on clock cycles which would make huge assumptions and require trust to the reporter (or recalculation of sort)?

The section on decentralized bandwith is just as comical. Lots of "they could" and futuristic predictions with an overview of mesh networks.

All of that said, the section that takes the cake is "Practical Decentralization" on page 36. This section has bogus legal advice suggesting that your "start your corporation as a non-profit." What does the taxing status have to do with centralization? Non-profits have an "executive director" which function in the /same/ capacity as CEOs, and they frequently make a profit. Perhaps the author intended to suggest a horizontal workers' cooperative? Other nuggets that I would suggest you never do: "in your legal documents, label your assets as app tokens to unlock features." Cute. What's the purpose? This section also includes the hypothetical creation of a tool "bpm" the Blockchain Packet [sic] (presumably "package" not "packet") Manager. The authors imagination knows no bounds. This is perhaps the first fiction book published by O'Reilly.

I can't see a use for this book. There isn't a satisfactory explanation of "distributed hash table", "ledger", "proof-of-work", "proof-of-stake", "blockchain" or "smart contracts." Instead, these words are left vague and frequently used in such a fashion to make the entire book look like marketing hype. This is the kind of text I would expect from an author who markets himself as a "traveler, musician, postmodernist, and scuba diver."

Word Salad boilerplate without aim or substance

I REALLY wanted to like this book. That said, I am very disappointed. At 103 pages, this booklet is the thinnest O'Reilly volume I have ever owned (by a factor of three). The author uses Word Salad liberally, throwing around terms and marketing boilerplate, while defining very little.

Page 40 includes paragraph-length descriptions of REST, CRUD, and MVC, concepts not central to the book's topic, but mentions Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake (essential topics to blockchains) only in passing on page 11. There is no technical description of either, other to say that PoW is computationally intense, and PoS depends on a participant's prior investment in a cryptocurrency. Sybil Attack is mentioned repeatedly, but never defined (a search engine will help, but the author should learn to write for an audience, instead).

Chapters on actual Dapps are comprised of mostly terminal copy-paste of invoking git, and a few out-of-context snippets of code that the author does not bother to explain. The graphics are not in context, and seem to serve to boost the already feeble page count, rather than illustrate a point.

In short, this book was a waste of my $20, and a waste of my attention awaiting its arrival. (It's publication was delayed twice. It now appears that the author ran out of time and shipped the ill-composed draft, broken URLs and all.)

Disappointing, very little content

Beware, there is very little content in this book. It is extremely thin, and most of what there is is just simple case studies on using apps. It really doesn't even scratch the surface of this complex and fascinating topic.

This is definitely not worth the current asking price.

This really feels like it was rushed out to cash in on the current hype. I was very disappointed with this.
